Finally, Microsoft has come up with something long overdue for Internet Explorer: Tabbed Browsing. The search feature that it's attached to is a bonus or a bane, depending on your personal preferences. I'll give it a go and wait for the Version 7 release, perhaps then you can turn off the search bar without losing the tabbed feature. When Google introduced Desktop search I tried that, but it tended to slow my computer considerably, so it didn't last long. The MSN Desktop search pauses the indexing while you're using the computer and continues when the computer is idle, a much better idea.
I occasionally use Firefox for the tabbed browsing feature, but you have to tell it each time to open the page in a new tab, not a new window which is the default. Avant Browser has been my browser of choice for some time now. It uses the IE engine and gives full control over browsing options, eg, easily turn on or off popup blockers, active-x controls, javascript, images, etc. The MSN toolbar includes popup blocking add-ins for including other file-types in the desktop search.
Of course Internet Explorer still has lots of issues and you can love it or hate it but as it's integrated with so much else it seems the logical choice.
