It's Saturday night and I'm home alone and loving it. No screaming kids and Eminem swearing his head off from Carly or Alex's bedrooms. The kids have gone to their father's for the night, and I thought a couple of long-necks might go down well. Carlton please. My song list always starts off with my all-time favourite, going back to the '70s, Snowy White's Bird of Paradise. For those of you that don't know, Snowy White was once a lead guitarist with Pink Floyd, so you can imagine the guitar, it gives me shivers it's that powerful. I think I want it played at my funeral. The rest of the playlist didn't get beyond the Cs. The Calling, The Church, The Commitments, The Corrs, The Coral, The Cranberries, and then back to my next best favourites, Pearl Jam and Nirvana. I love Better Man, and then you can't go past the John Butler Trio's version of Better Man so I have to add that. Then Zebra, very different, from the Sunrise Over Sea album.
I've got this excellent little program that turns your music software into a karoake machine called Evil Lyrics. You just have to run it and it finds the lyrics for the song you've got playing. I use Musicmatch Jukebox myself, but it works with many other players, including WinAmp, iTunes, Foobar, Media Monkey, Real Player, Windows Media Player and others. Give it a burl if you're into that. It allows you to upload the lyrics for those songs that it can't find. I'm playing a few Neil Young songs and unfortunately there's no lyrics. That's my era and although I know all the songs, I'm not going to write up all the words. There's just too many old songs that I love to be able to do that. I love to sing when I drink, it's one of my unfulfilled fantasies. To be the singer in a rock band. No more hair brushes though, these days I just give it all I've got. Not sure what the neighbours think, I'm sure they know by now it's me when I'm having a drink. They may even enjoy it. I know I do. My kids can't get over the fact that I know the words to every (nearly) song on the radio but can't remember the important things that are happening in our daily lives.
Alex's footy side got flogged today by Temora - 34-10. The boys didn't score at all in the second half but the football was incredible. These are 10-year-olds but they play like seniors. I actually enjoy it more then the first grade games, these kids have got so much potential, I keep thinking I'm going to be watching them on TV in another 10 years playing in the NRL (National Rugby League). Alex is a good little footy player, but there's kids on the team that outshine the other kids so much, it's a bit sad for the good players. They don't get much of a chance to show just how really good they are.
My playlist has grown considerably since I started this post, I've added Nelly Furtado, U2, Three Doors Down, Morcheeba, Tori Amos, and No Doubt (there's another one), I'll add many more before the night is out. At the same time I'm working on the new tabbed navigation bar which I have set up on the About page, but I'm not sure I like it. I thing I prefer the original code, so I'll leave it for a few days and see if I get any feedback. That would be nice.
