Google's 300-Year Plan

|

I read today that there is around 5 million terabytes of information in the world, and according to Google's chief, they have only indexed 170 of them.

Chief executive Eric Schmidt estimates that Google won't manage to index all the world's information until around the 24th century. It could take 300 years to index all the world's information and make it searchable, Google's chief executive Eric Schmidt predicted on Saturday at the Association of National Advertisers annual conference in Phoenix. "We did a math exercise and the answer was 300 years," Schmidt said in response to an audience question asking for a projection of how long the company's mission will take. "The answer is it's going to be a very long time."

The mind boggles! How many lifetimes would it take to read everything on the internet? When you consider how many new sites are added each day, how many new bloggers sign up for space, how many photos are getting uploaded each day: you can only shake your head in wonder!!

Michelangelo Buonarroti

"What spirit is so empty and blind, that it cannot recognize the fact that the foot is more noble than the shoe, and skin more beautiful that the garment with which it is clothed?"
