My thanks goes to those wonderfully clever but sadly malicious virus and malware authours. Without you guys I'd probably still be in the dark about the internal workings of my computer. I'm an expert now at picking a suspicious looking process. I spent 3 hours last night cleaning up an infection, and closely watching the scans that went on.
I was flabbergasted to see there are 800+ bad sites that cleaners look for, 300+ bad products, 300+ rouge anti-spyware, and over 1300 variants of the cool websearch trojan. Wouldn't you think someone could shut down those 800+ bad sites and go after those hundreds of snake-oil peddlers.
I have an arsenal of spyware and anti-virus and firewalls but the little blighters still manage to slip through. My own fault. I clicked on a site that Spyware Doctor gave me a warning about, and thought, I'm protected, how bad can it be? HA! Yes, bad enough. Three hours of bad. I must say thanks again though, my computer is working twice as fast as ever now, I had such a good clean-out and even made of nice image of the partition to restore in case of emergency.
