Emily and Kai's wedding went off perfectly. They chose a lovely spot at the southern end of Miami Beach that had a little cove which sheltered everyone from the wind. It was close enough to the resort that people could walk if they wanted. About 40 people attended, and considering we all had to get to Queensland somehow, that was a great effort. Lauren and Emily's friend Tash did a reading each, and Emily's other sister Jasmin carried the pillow with the rings. Mum and Jan (my aunt) did a wonderful job decorating the table where they signed the wedding certificate. Dad and my uncle Tom were both there as well, and it was lovely to catch up. It's been 3 years since I've seen dad (though I talk to him each week) and probably 15 years since I've seen Tom and Jan.
Emily's father had an accident earlier in the week and couldn't make the trip to Queensland so at the last minute I had to give the bride away. The celebrant was lovely and made the adjustments easily. I think that was the only downer on the day, Emily would have liked her father to be there. We had a last minute hiccup with the wedding cake but that didn't take too long to sort out.
Everyone had a relaxing time around the pool in the afternoon. We all ate, drank, and were merry without the formality of place-settings and speeches. There were a couple of thank you speeches, and Kai's grandfather gave us a short history of the family which was quite interesting. It was nice to meet Kai's family and be able to put faces to the people he talks about. Alex is rapt to have another "brother" and we're now wondering when there will be more grandchildren in the family, though Emily assures us it won't be soon. They went off on their honeymoon to Daydream Island the following day, and came home to Wagga on Saturday, both very happy with the way everything turned out.
