Recoding my Junee Magic Website

|

I had the weekend with no internet and it finally got me started on the site make-over for my Junee Magic website. What prompted me more than anything was how my site viewed in Firefox. It was attrocious. All squashed up against the left side and no space between the columns. I haven't changed the look of the site at all, except to get rid of lots of flashy ads from other sites, it's only the code I'm perfecting. I'm sure that Firefox was just reflecting the many errors I had in the HTML.

I had a go a few months back trying to recode the whole site in XHTML, but it was taking me forever to change every piece of code. I've found a page on my site, long-since unused, that displays perfectly in both browsers, so obviously once a long time ago the code was good. It's probably been my many additions that have screwed up the layout and Firefox proved to be less tolerant than Explorer because it viewed okay in IE. I managed to re-do about 30 pages over the weekend and with about 200 to go it's still a mammoth task. Much of it will be cut and paste from here on, with careful review of the CSS, and while the classes are all fresh in my mind it's full steam ahead for a few weeks.

Not that I have any time for web design at the moment. It was great when I was home all day, but now that I have a full-time job it would be difficult to put in the necessary time. Still, if the opportunity comes along I probably won't knock it back. But having a site that displays bad is no recommendation for website design, so it's a matter of pride.

Eberhard Arnold

"The natural world around us shows the way to relief. All of life is maintained by the sun, by the air, by water, by the earth and its resources. And to whom was the sun given? To everyone. If there is any one thing that people do have in common, it is the gift of sunlight. But as the early Christians said, If the sun were not hung so high, someone would have claimed it long ago.

And the desire to own property, to take for ourselves things which in no way belong to us, does not stop short at the sun. The air is already bought and sold as a commodity, by health resorts. And what of water? Or waterpower? Why should the earth be parceled out into private hands? Is it any different from the sun? No; the earth belongs to the people who live on it. God intended it for them, but it has been taken over by private individuals. The word private comes from the Latin privarto steal. Thus private property is stolen property property stolen from God and from humankind!

Jesus is the friend of humanity and therefore the enemy of private property. He wants people to have true life. He attacked the urge to self-preservation and privilege. He gave up everything and became not only the poorest but also the lowest, for he was classed as a criminal. He kept nothing back for himself. He had no money of his own: his wandering community had a common purse."
