The Style Contest for Movable Type, Typepad and LiveJournalHas anyone looked at the new styles added to The Style Contest? I based my new weblog "Spitting Into the Wind" on one of the styles, and am rather pleased with the result. I tried several styles, but was disappointed with the results of most of the styles. They look great in the Style Browser, but not so great when used in conjunction with StyleCatcher. Many do not have thumbnails, so don't display in the StyleCatcher interface.

My new site is not really new. I moved the content from MSN Spaces after being continually disappointed with the way MSN stripped the code from my posts. No user control at all for display purposes. Sure you can move things around and add and delete them, but anything else, no way. It seems to me to be a site designed for pre-teens.

Update: The styles all work perfectly, it was my own fault they didn't display correctly.

Initially I moved all the images into the same folder as the css files and changed the files accordingly. I renamed the css files to template-filename.css, and should not have renamed the base one. The missing thumbnails made me think that MT couldn't find the images but it was a case of missing thumbnails.

I fixed the problem by physically copying the thumbnails from the Style Browser, and placing them in the folder where the files are located (each in their specific folders). Only one style, The Great Outdoors, included a thumbnail.gif and thumbnail-large.gif.

Once I had them in their folders StyleCatcher displayed them perfectly. It's not a fault with stylecatcher, but with the authors who are not including them in the downloads.
