Movable Type 3.3 Upgrade

I was notified of a new post on Learning Movable Type this morning and it was "A Safe Way to Upgrade to Movable Type 3.3". I spent a while last night installing the new version onto a different web host so it was an entirely new installation. I was very reluctant to lose my plugins because of their incompatability with version 3.3, especially LivePreview that I've come to use frequently. None of the plugins reliant on the BigPAPI plugin will work in 3.3 and I have a few installed.

After reading Elise's latest post I decided to upgrade to a new directory in the cgi-bin and leave my previous version intact instead of overwriting it, as suggested in Six Apart's install instructions. I doctored up the new mt.js to include a couple of additional scripts and overwrote the contents of the mt-static directory. My internet speed seemed abnormally quick this morning and was able to upload the files quite quickly, unlike last night to the other server.

I was disappointed to note the blogs didn't reflect the upgraded version number, then remembered they should have all been rebuilt.

Eberhard Arnold

"The first believers experienced the kingdom of God, the revolution of all things and the re-evaluation of all values. They experienced the complete transformation of all conditions and all possibilities, the re-ordering of all relationships in business, state, society, and everywhere. An utterly new scale of values took effect, quite different from what had existed so far. Christ replaced all other sovereignties; he swept away the power of lying, of impurity, and of murder and instead of them, the peace of God took hold and held sway.
This was the expectation and experience of the original church-community, and it stands in sharp contrast to our Christianity today. Anyone can sense that at that time a fresher wind blew and purer water flowed, a stronger power and a more fiery warmth ruled."
