Birthday Tea With the Family

but the old brush knows all the corners."

After two years of posting on this website I've finally run out of my little quotes from Master Chen Hai Yang. It might be appropriate to start recycling them, because they're little snippets of good advice.

Yesterday I turned 48 and the family all came over from Wagga and we went out to the club for tea. It was lovely. We had a couple of bottle of Chardonnay, and when we got home opened a bottle of Reisling that a friend gave me for a birthday present. You were right Lyn, it was a nice drop. I was getting a little loud by the end of the night, and that's always a good indication that I've had too much to drink. The old mouth was a little dry when I got up this morning, but no hangover thank God. Emily gave me a travel pack of Dr. Le Win's skin care and I got skin care products from Lauren, so I'll be able to give myself a good pamper.

Carly went off to the ball looking beautiful, with an escort that bought her a lovely wrist corsage made from fresh orchids. The day started out terrible with Carly refusing to go to school, so we compromised, and she went until 12, and had the afternoon to get ready. This morning I had a bigger battle getting them both to school. It's the last day before they break up for two weeks school holidays and neither Alex or Carly was easy to get up. Alex said he was so tired he couldn't see and Carly laid in bed until I threatened to drag her out. It's nearly quarter past nine and she's late for school but she's going.

I've decided to take them to Canberra for a couple of days. It's a long weekend, and I have an RDO today, so for me it's extra long. We'll leave on Saturday morning, and come home Sunday night. I think they're both excited. Carly because she thinks she's off on a big shopping spree, and Alex has already decided he wants a new cap and Touch boots. We'll see how for the dollars stretch.
