It's Show Time

The team getting organised for the first cricket game of the seasonAlex was up at 7am this morning, ready for cricket at 8.30. I was amazed, if it was a school day I would have been still yelling for him to get up. And what an awful day it turned out. It's blowing a gale outside and I have the heater going. It's ridiculous! Two weeks ago I bought an air conditioner because it was so hot and today it's freezing.

I spent most of the morning in the canteen at cricket, it was the only place out of the wind. Alex had all the gear on, with his new bat, gloves and pads, and was disappointed when he only scored 2 runs. "Better than a duck" was my response when he had a whinge. This year all the boys got new hats when they signed up for cricket, and they're in the Junee blue and gold colours. Alex wore his to school all week, he thought it was so cool. Usually they're all in their whites but today most kids had jumpers on, and the fathers were all rugged up with jackets and trackies. I was stiff and shaking with the cold and was relieved when it was all over.

Today is the Junee Show and Carly spent the morning at home in a cleaning frenzy so she could earn some money to go. Alex managed to clean his room, a miracle, so he could go too. So far it's cost me a fortune and I haven't left home!

It's after 6 now and I'm home from the Show. I drove Alex up there and decided to have a wander around and look at all the exhibits in the halls. Mum had entered one of her patchwork quilts and won the Champion award, and Alex had a piece of splatter-paint artwork in that he never mentioned. While I was there both kids hit me up for more money, so it was probably a mistake for me to go. It was fun to watch them on the rides, both Carly and Alex were having a great time when I left.

I have less than a year now to give up smoking, I promised the kids I'd give up before I turn 50. The count-down has begun.
