I was inspired by Rich Schefren's blog after reading the lists of many other people who've commented on his site, to sit down and actually think about some of the things I love.
Family and friends are big on my list:
- The smell of coffee first thing in the morning.
- Watching really intense thunderstorm with lots of lightning, then enjoying the blackout with candles with my kids.
- Sunday night roast dinners with the whole family around.
- Watching the kids play sport and enjoying the company of the other parents.
- Driving around the countryside on weekends with the kids off to football and loving the great expanses.
- Sleeping late when I can.
- Talking computers with somebody without seeing that vacant look that says you've lost me.
- Teaching someone the tips and tricks you can do with computers to make their experience more enjoyable.
- Reading a book that I get so involved in I can't wait to get back to or even sometimes dreaming about it.
- A good conversation with friends, family and strangers.
- Having a quiet drink and singing my lungs out to the music on my computer when there's no-one else around.
- Catching up with friends I haven't seen in a long time.
- Big family get-togethers.
- Finding great bargains at a garage sale or in a second-hand shop.
- Creating websites and using new CSS techniques, using new and useful things on my current sites.
- Learning new things and new ways to do old things.
- Fixing computers, there's a certain satisfaction when friends and family have computer problems and I can get things back to normal or even improve them.
- A good meal at a nice restaurant.
- A cold beer after mowing the lawns in summer.
- Surprises.

I have less than a year now to give up smoking, I promised the kids I'd give up before I turn 50. The count-down has begun.
