After reading about how bloggers make money via their websites, I'm wondering how they get around the ad blockers that are so effectively blocking all ads on web pages. I have spent the night refining my own ads in the hope of making a little extra, and when I checked to see how they looked, there was nothing to look at.
Firefox, in particular, does a very good job of totally blocking ads, so they don't appear at all. I had to whitelist my domain to view the ad content, but how many people would turn it on to view the ads on a page. Very few I would imagine.
I've tried another type of ad revenue from Kontera.com, where they create inline content links. A contextually relevant keyword is discovered in real-time on a web page from within Kontera´s network of publishers, and is automatically turned into a link to the most relevant ad from among Kontera´s advertisers. I've read some good reviews on the returns using ContentLink™ and I'm interested to see how it will go. Of course you need people to actually click on the links, and sometimes the ads on a page are enough to turn some visitors away.

I have less than a year now to give up smoking, I promised the kids I'd give up before I turn 50. The count-down has begun.
