Mental Blank Day

Wow, it's one of those days. I want to rewrite my website using CSS only, but I've been staring at the pages all day, and don't know what to put in the content.

Talk about frustrating. My site presently relies on tables which are slow to load. Also, I want to prune it down. There's way too much content. I've been looking at templates all day but really, haven't done any real work.

I've had the school on the phone complaining about Alex's behaviour, so all round, it's been a bad day.

Nightmare Restoring Database

Hi all, what a terrible day I've had. We have a forum on one of the websites I maintain and I upgraded it. All went well until I tried to backup the database with the original.

After reading every search question about it, I eventually had to restore everything bit by bit, figuring out all the errors as I went, and there were plenty. At the end of the day I think it was my own username that was causing all the duplicate entry error messages I was getting.

The best way to learn about something is to have to fix it. I know so much more about mysql databases tonight. And I now know how to properly back up the rotten things.

Thank God It's Friday

Another 3 hours fixing computers. This time couldn't download the mail, but only from one account. Very strange. And even though it kept saying the username was wrong, we could send and receive e-mails with that account. At first I thought it was trojan trouble again, but it could be an ISP problem.

Got the new U2 album yesterday, haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. Got the new Green Day one the other day. I love Boulevarde of Broken Dreams.

Back To Work

Time to get serious again about doing some work. Though I haven't been completely idle while the kids were on school holidays. I discovered an excellent site that offers e-mail services, 30 mail accounts, 30MB web space, online advertising, and inclusion in google (hard to get). My new site is at www.juneegirl22.locatorbiz.com. Check it out.

Off To A Good Start

This year seems to be off to a good start for me (not for all the people affected by the recent Tsunami disaster). I've had several computer jobs already this year. Quick and easy is what I like. Mostly sound-cards that have stopped working, but it's been just a matter of reinstalling the drivers.

Lauren gave me her computer to upgrade. It would have been the top of the line 10 years ago, and had everything you could want. Video capture, a tape drive, so much multimedia stuff, and running on 16 M of memory. Incredible. I upgraded it to 64, but it has both EDO and SDRAM, so there could be a problem there. The Windows 98 installation isn't going as smoothly as I hoped. It's taking 120 minutes. Something must be wrong, and it's the second time I've tried to install it. First time there were problems with Regsvr.exe and every time it booted, the registry checker would swing into action. Headaches plus.

I'll perservere.

A New Year

Happy New Year to all. What a sad start to 2005 we've had with all the deaths in Asia. It makes me thank God I live outside the disaster zone. All those people dead, it's hard to comprehend.

I've been rather slack with my daily posts, too tired, too much food and drink over this festive season has made Jack a lazy boy. Toni too. My jeans are so tight from all the over-indulgence of late. I guess I'm not alone there. I feel guilty when I think about those poor people on the islands who've been waiting a week for something to eat, when I'm throwing out all the ham and chicken, etc left over from Christmas. My chooks are better fed than some people.

My website has also suffered from the holiday season. I've had several computer fixes to do in the last few days, and more coming up, which means I haven't had a chance to do all the things I intended with my site. I plan to take out the Junee Magic Member's section, but before I can there's alot of references that need to be removed, and links that need to be changed. It's alot of work. But while it's a protected section of my site there's no indexing, so all the code and downloads are not being advertised in the search engines.

My site doesn't come up on a Google search anyway. It's rather disappointing, considering the effort I put into meta tags and search strings, which I'll probably change now. Apparently, according to all the SEO gurus, less is better, and I may have done myself a disservice by having too many keywords, and too similar descriptions for every page on my site. Google may have even black-banned me, (an interesting thought, explains why I'm not getting indexed), perhaps with all my site submissions they even consider that I've been spamming them. It's so damned frustrating.

Check out my website www.juneemagic.com and let me know what you think. Any comments and criticism would be welcome. Am I doing something wrong? I've had 3 people sign in to the member's section. Considering the millions of people who use the internet every day, this seems like a very small number. My business is going nowhere and it's costing alot more than it's generating. So sad.

So, I have lots of work to do and no time in which to do it. So typical. But I work best under pressure.

Until next time, cheers

Another Busy Day

We've had my nephew over from Wagga for a couple of days so today I drove him home. I had an appointment there that took a couple of hours, finally got the hood for the BBQ, bought a few more xmas presents (nearly there), then had 3 hours of JOST this afternoon.

I took Carly and Alex to the club for tea, excellent except for their complaints about everything. Couldn't sit still for two minutes. Every time we go somewhere I threaten never taking them anywhere again.

Emails galore tonight. Some interesting stuff though. I found myself reading most of it properly (usually I skim). No words of wisdom sorry, think I need an early night.
