Lexmark X1200 series and Vista Errors

Ever since I've been using Vista, my scanner wouldn't work because of the Vista drivers issue, so on Saturday I bought a new Lexmark 1200 with scan, copy and fax capabilities. It installed beautifully in XP, but Vista was a horror story that has taken me two days to solve.

After reading every post on the net that I could find, I eventually got the printer to work properly, with the All-In-One Center working perfectly.

I was getting the AIOC stopped working problem until I did the following:

  1. Disconnect the USB Cable.
  2. Uninstall using the disk (verify no leftover program group)
  3. Go to the location C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3
  4. Clean out all the files that start with lxbx
  5. Empty Recyle Bin.
  6. Reboot PC

Before reinstalling the software I downloaded a fix from the Lexmark site to clean out the registry properly. All those installs had created a ton of registry entries. Download the four files in the reg folder, and follow the text instructions. After you reboot, you're able to install correctly and everything should work.

Install the vista driver only plugging in the USB cable when prompted by the software.
