New Australian Anthem

Australians all let us rejoice
The weekend now is near
We've worked all bloody week for this
Dear God let's get a beer.
Our desks abound in paperwork
Our hands are stained with ink
In desperate stage, we'll fly the cage
Advance to Friday drinks!!
With joyful strains, destroy our brains
Advance to Friday drinks.

What's It Worth?

20.jpgSometimes we just need to be reminded!

A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20.00 bill. In the room of 200, he asked, "Who would like this $20 bill?"

Hands started going up. He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this. He proceeded to crumple up the $20 dollar bill. He then asked, "Who still wants it?"

Still the hands were up in the air. Well, he replied, "What if I do this?" And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty. "Now, who still wants it?"

Still the hands went into the air.

My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20. Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who DO LOVE you. The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by WHO WE ARE and WHOSE WE ARE. You are special- Don't EVER forget it.

Lessons We Can Learn From Geese

Humans, like geese, were created to work together and to support one another. When we encourage each other and support our leaders we can accomplish amazing things — much more than trying to work alone.

Fact 1: As each goose flaps its wings it creates an "uplift" for the birds that follow. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew alone.

Lesson: People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.

Fact 2: When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. It quickly moves back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front of it.

Lesson: If we have as much sense as a goose we stay in formation with those headed where we want to go. We are willing to accept their help and give our help to others.

My Overloaded Brain

God, I feel like I should have a head the size of a pumpkin! I seem to be literally soaking up information and I stop to wonder sometimes just how much your brain can take. Work has been non-stop. It's coming up Business Paper time again and I'll be doing it for the third time. It takes a week to gather reports from all the various departments, and days of typing and photocopying to have it out to the Councillors before their monthly meeting. It's a stressful week because of deadlines and delays. Co-ordinating the Community Transport for the last 3 weeks has left me exhausted, and I was so happy to hand it back over to the usual co-ordinator when she came back from holidays yestery.

I'm also learning to create new modules in the software that Council uses to keep track of everything, and it's an intensive exercise. There's so much to know, but it's interesting and I enjoy getting into the setup side of the program. I'm looking forward to getting my head fully around it.

There's been constant phone calls for building enquiries, development application submissions and approvals and I'm so happy it's Friday and I can forget it all until Monday.

Mental Blank Days

I'm not one for words sometimes and I find it hard to sit and write things. I sit here with a blank page for so long that quite often I just quit out of it without writing a word. Mental Blank Days. I seem to have a lot of them. I read other peoples' posts and they seem to have a real flair for writing. Am I boring? I don't think so. When I have visitors there's usually plenty to talk about. It's something about writing I think. Maybe I need a short course on how to write!!

It's Friday evening and Carly has gone to sleep at her father's for the night. Alex has gone to the skate park for a couple of hours and I bought a few "long necks". That's large bottles of beer for those un-Aussies. I've got my favourite Live tracks playing on the computer while I sit here tapping away on the keys. Live as in the band and not live performances. Live is sometimes referred to as "Gospel Rock". I find them a very passionate band, and if it's God they're passionate about, good luck to them. I don't think of religion when I listen to the music. I hear feeling and passion and the songs are full of ups and downs and it's great to sing along. That's my bit of prayer maybe, when I'm singing along to a Live song.

Let's not get started on the topic of religion, that's something that I could write about but then I would be boring. I could go on about it for a long time and get nowhere.
